Brooches
* Denotes item available for purchase or exhibition
STRONGFELT brooches began as hollow forms constructed by hand stitching felt fabrics and filling the form with cotton fibers. More recently brass wire has been used to construct an initial armature form on which wool fibers are wet felted, the process continues to sculpt the wire form as the felt shrinks. Sterling silver pinbacks are used to secure the brooch. Surface design may incorporate: fusion with fabric, thread and other non-felting fibers, partial felt patterning, 3-D felt surfaces, free-motion embroidery and natural dyes.
